Chinese Cultural Training

Developed by Mary Goetter, Ren Tong, and Ron Mennenga

This is a great time for businesses to explore opportunities in China given the unprecedented chances to find customers and to develop partnerships. Asia’s middle class is becoming the world’s single largest group of consumers.

Yet the problem is that accessing China’s expanding and dynamic markets can often be a frustrating experience without a general understanding of the Chinese culture and business structure. The solution to this dilemma is the Fortune Cookies Chinese Cultural Training Program , originally conceived in 2006 and designed to help your business succeed through focused cultural and language training.

The short videos at the right of this page illustrate how vital it is for American businesses to possess this knowledge. Before you visit the rest of our website it would be a good idea for you to take a quick look at these.

We start with  China: Rising Superpower, an NBC special report that gives an overview of the explosive growth presently going on in Shanghai. We also have Guanxi: Its All About Trust which examines the unique way that the Chinese build relationships and why understanding it is so vital to doing business there. There are also two interviews with noted author and speaker Greg Bissky; Why Westerners Just Don't Get It which explores the ideological differences as well as Chinese Glasses: Different Ways of Thinking which deals with the philosophical hurdles. Finally we have some sample webisodes from our Fortune Cookies Chinese Cultural Training Video Series.

Our team agreed that the Chinese Cultural Training Program was...highly useful. The instructors had an excellent command of the subject matter based on years of experience. We learned a lot and enjoyed doing it.”
